The most memorable portion of the law school application process, clients often tell us, is opening the letter of acceptance from their dream school. School letterhead sets the scene for an enthusiastic “Welcome!” and the Dean’s inked signature confirms the start of a journey at Yale, Stanford, UChicago, UPenn, Harvard, or other top law school that signifies a major life milestone and first step in a successful legal career.

Securing your seat at the top law schools in 2023, however, is no easy task. With thousands of highly talented applicants vying for acceptance, standing out can prove difficult. Stanford Law School, for example, received 5,000+ applications and admitted only 357 students in 2023, noting a 6.28% acceptance rate that was even lower than the 6.89% acceptance rate of its equally prestigious MBA Program. We see similarly selective odds at other top law schools like Yale (4.12%), UPenn (9.39%), and Harvard (6.9%).

While a top-tier LSAT score and stellar undergraduate grades were typically enough to gain entry to the most selective schools in decades past, each element of the contemporary law school application is scrutinized by admissions committees. The core of the written portion, the Law School Personal Statement, is a requirement of nearly every highly selective school, and often the most difficult aspect for applicants to tackle. Given only 1-2 pages of space to tell your story and convince an admissions committee to say yes, where should you begin?

It is no surprise that crafting a memorable, comprehensive Personal Statement is often clients' primary focus when they initially reach out to us. The 1 on 1 time our coaches spend to truly understand each client’s proclivities and passions personally, academically, and professionally help them craft memorable Personal Statements that win the hearts and minds of admissions committees and give you the edge amongst candidates with similarly strong GPAs and LSAT scores.

The 1 on 1 personal coaching we do also provides a roadmap for clients’ intellectual and professional journeys during law school and beyond. It is our goal to guide you to admission at a school which matches your unique career goals in the legal world, whether you aspire to the partner-track in “Big Law,” work in a generational family law practice with a regional focus, a clerkship that helps you move toward an eventual PhD in Law post-JD, work as a “solopreneur” practicing law on your own in a budding new field like AI, or another yet uncharted path.

Our Expert Law Coaches bring a wealth of combined experience as admissions consultants and career coaches to help you distill the aspects of your applicant profile that are truly unique, and will most resonate with law school admissions committees. We look forward to helping you more clearly articulate your “why?” for law school, as well as guiding you through the process of sharing a compelling narrative in your application that secures your place at the school of your dreams.

Jayne Mulcahy, Expert Coach

Jayne offers clients a unique combination of admissions experience in both MBA and JD admissions, plus experience recruiting for a top global economic, litigation and strategy consulting firm.

Jayne started her career in investment banking, then shifted to JD admissions and recruiting for the top Health Law program in the US. As a member of the Saint Louis University School of Law Admissions Committee, she was responsible for evaluating all JD program application components and rendering admission decisions. Jayne's role also provided an opportunity to travel to colleges and universities across the US where she met with prelaw advisors and law school candidates to share admissions tips and strategies. She made sure to stay connected to the candidates she admitted during their law school journey by creating and leading the SLU Law Ambassador program.

Shifting her focus to MBA admissions at Arizona State University, and most recently with the Kellogg School of Management, provided Jayne the opportunity to work with a new graduate school applicant population and continue to work with JD applicants. In addition to selecting candidates for the full-time MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management, she also worked directly with the JD Admissions team at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law on candidate evaluation for JD-MBA program admission. The JD-MBA program at Northwestern University is the largest of its kind in the country and was the first to develop a three-year program completion model. Of utmost importance to Jayne during her time at Kellogg was ensuring students admitted to the dual JD-MBA program had the skills to be successful in both academic environments.

Jayne left the Kellogg MBA admissions team to join Charles River Associates (CRA), an elite global economic, litigation and strategy consulting firm started by professors from MIT. Joining CRA as a recruiter facilitated the opportunity to stay close to her higher education roots often working with senior-level consultants who continued to teach MBA and JD courses at top programs throughout the US. Jayne leveraged her prior admissions work at CRA by presenting graduate school admissions workshops and conducting resume and essay reviews for junior consultants preparing to apply to MBA, JD, and PhD programs in the US and Europe. She has a BA and BS from Saint Louis University in History and Business Administration, respectively, and a MA in History from Arizona State University.
