Lucas Jacob brings over 25 years of experience in education to his role as a Writing Specialist at Fortuna Admissions. He has served as Director of Writing, Communication, and Media Literacy at La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego, Luke has spent much of his career helping students find their voice — and shape it into powerful personal narratives. He has guided approximately 1,000 students through the college admissions process, supporting applications to top U.S. universities, liberal arts colleges, conservatories, international institutions, and specialized programs in business, science, and the arts.
Luke began his admissions work as an essay-application specialist and has since trained numerous consultants in effective application storytelling. A National Merit Scholar and later a Fulbright Teaching Fellow in Budapest, Hungary, he holds a BA in English and African-American Studies from Carleton College (Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude) and an MA in Writing and Literature from Temple University (with highest honors).
A published author of two full-length poetry collections and two chapbooks, Luke’s work has appeared in nearly 100 literary magazines and journals, including the Journal of Media Literacy Education, Education Week, and IEEE’s Computer Graphics and Applications. He brings not only technical mastery but deep empathy to his coaching — helping students tell their stories in ways that are both authentic and unforgettable.
