Peter Johnson brings unmatched experience and perspective to Fortuna, having served in senior leadership at one of the world’s top MBA programs for nearly two decades. As Assistant Dean of the Full-time MBA Program at Berkeley Haas, he led the admissions team, chaired the admissions committee, and helped design the school’s evaluation and interview process. He later served as the administrative head of the entire program, overseeing student experience, academic affairs, and admissions.
After his first decade at Haas, Peter relocated to Europe, serving as Vice President at Central European University in Budapest, before returning to California to rejoin Haas in a senior leadership role. Over the years, he’s reviewed thousands of applications and developed a sharp eye for the stories that resonate with admissions committees – and the ones that don’t.
Peter’s commitment to increasing access and representation in business education is reflected in his board service with GMAC and the Forté Foundation. He’s known for his thoughtful, empowering approach and deep belief that every candidate has something valuable to contribute. Having lived in Italy, Austria, and Hungary, Peter also enjoys helping applicants highlight international experience and a global mindset. Now based in California’s Sonoma County wine country, he spends weekends kayaking on the Russian River or discovering new wineries with his two dogs in tow.

Candidates Love Working With Peter

Q&A with Peter
What’s your coaching superpower?
Listening. A good coach needs to understand the applicant’s story in order to effectively support them. Applicants often undervalue their own experience, and helping them to present their unique skills and talents can be the key to standing out in the application process.
Why are you passionate about coaching?
I’ve spent years evaluating candidates, and have seen many applicants fail to communicate their unique value as a professional and as a person to the Admissions Committee. Helping applicants to think holistically about their strengths and areas for growth and how to confidently communicate their value to an admissions committee is really rewarding.
