Getting invited to the Wharton group interview—officially known as the Team-Based Discussion (TBD)—is a major milestone. Congratulations! Now it’s time to prepare for one of the most distinctive and challenging formats in MBA admissions.

Why the Wharton Group Interview Is Different
Wharton’s Team-Based Discussion (TBD) is a 35-minute virtual group exercise in which you collaborate with 5–6 fellow MBA applicants to address a real-world business prompt. The group must work together to develop a solution and achieve a tangible outcome—while being observed by two members of the Wharton admissions team. It’s followed by a 10-minute one-on-one interview.
This format reflects the collaborative, discussion-driven learning style at Wharton. It’s a test of how you engage, listen, contribute, and lead under pressure—and a rare opportunity to experience the Wharton culture before you even step on campus.
