She is also the founder of Syrian Welcome Dinners, a Toronto-based initiative that connected newly arrived Syrian families with local hosts during the 2015-16 refugee crisis.

Outside of work, Melissa is a proud community leader and athlete. She’s President of the North Shore Baseball Association in North Vancouver – supporting over 700 youth athletes – and performs regularly with her jazz dance troupe.
